Students will learn about the strengths and weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation. The activity has 13 pictures/excerpts and 30 student questions. I have set up this activity to have 6 stations, and students will spend 3-5 minutes at each one before they rotate. I have included teacher directions on how to use the activity. This is a good kinesthetic activity to get students out of their seats and moving. My students love doing activities like this because most them are sitting all day. The activity requires no textbook or teacher preparation other than posting the stations around your classroom. Please message me if you have any questions. An answer key is included for the teacher.
The activity was designed for middle school students. However, feel free to modify for upper or lower grades.
Below are the standards addressed in the activity:
Analyze the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation, including no power to tax, no common currency, no control of interstate commerce, no executive branch, and Shay's Rebellion.
Analyze the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 and the impact of future development of western settlement and the spread of public education and slavery.
