Diphthongs are vowels that are made up of multiple sounds.
They can be tricky to learn for a variety of reasons. Children with apraxia of speech, articulation difficulties, and adults learning English as an additional language can all benefit from repeated practice that involves seeing the mouth shapes for each part of a diphthong vowel.
This visual resource separates each diphthong vowel into their component sounds, and pairs them with the corresponding image of the mouth shape as well as a phonetic guide.
*Note: The phonetic and mouth shape guides for diphthong vowels were produced for the articulation of such in the North-West American accent. There will be slight differences as compared to English accents of different locales.
