It is so hard to motivate the upper elementary age student when it comes to speech therapy. They are tired of it and bored with it, so I have created a really fun and engaging activity for this age group!
Introducting Articulation Flextangles.
What is a flextangle? It is a very ingenious paper craft that will keep your students engaged and involved in your articulation kill and drill practices! When constructed the flextangle can be twisted and turned over and over and over endlessly. It makes an awesome fidget tool! The bonus, in this case, is that it incorporates the most common phonemes that your older students need to correct!
How it will work in speech:?
Your student will practice his sound in words (or incorporate them in phrases and sentences), then he will color according to a specific pattern, and finally, he will cut it out and glue it together. Once it is completed he can then start turning it over and over endlessly. With each twist and turn different speech words are exposed for him to practice.
If you are working on vocabulary, you have it right there, too. All the words are tier 2 vocabulary words! Do your vocabulary work with the flextangle.
Pages include these specific phonemes:
R: initial, medial, final, and blends
S: initial, medial, final, and blends
L: initial, medial, final, and blends
SH: initial medial, and final
CH: initial, medial, and final
J: (dz) initial medial, and final
☝ One more thing! Language Flextangles are coming very soon❗
