2 Starfish pages for initial /s/ syllable practice
90 /S/ word cards with a “sea creature” theme
9 Bonus starfish cards & 9 Uh-Oh wave cards
1 Sea Game Board
1. A motivating game is included in this download. This simple game will allow the children to be engaged in the activity, while practicing the /s/ sound in all word positions at the same time.
DIRECTIONS FOR /S/ Words in the Sea Game:
Help the sea creatures make it to the bottom of the ocean! Place the stack of /S/ word cards in the center of the table. Mix the bonus starfish cards and the Uh-Oh wave cards cards in the pile. Children take turns drawing cards from the pile, and saying words containing /s/. The teacher determines how many words each child must say per turn (e.g., 10 cards). After the child says the /s/ words, he/she may roll the dice and move the game token on the Sea Game Board. Watch out! If you get an “Uh-Oh” wave” card, you may have to move back spaces in the game. Bonus Starfish cards help you move forward. Whoever reaches the bottom of the ocean first wins the game!
2. You can print duplicates of the /s/ cards and play Memory or Go Fish.
3. The two starfish pages target /S/ in syllables. Use these for warm up practice, or teaching how to make the /s/ sound when a child initially begins speech therapy.
4. Use the initial, medial, and final /s/ cards for articulation drill practice. The cards are color coded (red=initial /s/, green=medial /s/, blue=final /s/). This allows for easy sorting for practicing different word positions.
