This free download is an outline of the general process to follow when conducting traditional articulation therapy.
Personal confession: there have been times when, in excitement to start articulation therapy with a student, I skipped a bunch of important steps that would have helped the student achieve stronger awareness of their targets, better self-correction skills, and faster progress. Now that I have all the steps written down, I'm much more likely to take the time necessary to ensure that my students have mastered each critical step before moving on. No longer do I start therapy by grabbing a stack of artic cards and plowing ahead at the sentence level! Even if my students can already produce their targets at, say, the word level, I still go through each previous step to ensure they have the awareness and discrimination skills that are necessary for self-correction and accurate production at higher levels of practice.
The guide is offered as a Word document so you can adjust to suit your own needs. Like to incorporate auditory bombardment? Add it to the outline! Want to change any of the details? Go for it! Make it work for YOU and YOUR STUDENTS!
Hopefully this outline can help you improve the way you conduct articulation therapy, just as it has helped me become a more systematic and effective SLP!
If it has, please consider leaving some feedback!
