Product rationale & use:
This product, Articulation Strips Using Classroom Vocabulary ELA K-2, was created to support articulation generalization during push-in/classroom-based speech therapy services. Articulation therapy has its definite challenges within the general education classroom; however, using core curriculum vocabulary to target articulation deficits bridges both articulation and language targets during practice. These strips were created to be used during push-in therapy as desk/folder/notebook strips by attaching to student tables/desks or inside student notebooks/folders. They can serve as quick reference plus drill practice using vocabulary targeted everyday within classrooms. This product does NOT include an exhaustive list of ELA vocabulary. Several resources were consulted to develop a general list of core ELA vocabulary according to CCSS for each grade level created (K-2). Standards are represented with mixed core vocabulary according to target sounds/groups of sounds. Strips are arranged with a RED STRIP on the left side to indicate the grade level and curriculum area (e.g.; CCSS.ELA.KDG) and the target speech sounds (e.g.; Initial /k/ ELA Vocabulary) on the right side, in various colors to quickly sort through target sounds. Each page should be cut in half (top half and bottom half). The SLP may choose to create a ring of all target sounds per grade level by laminating and punching a hole in the corner of each strip to house on a ring for quick drill. A cover card is included as well as suggestions for creating student file folders.
