Students have four artifacts to look through and interpret them by acting as the archaeologist or historian. Students will answer questions regarding the artifacts. You can break the students into groups and assign just one of the artifacts or let them work together and interpret all of the artifacts.
I have also brought in "modern" artifacts before and had students act as the historian of the future and have them interpret the purpose of them.
