This is a great way to teach how archeologists work!
I take a bag or box full of items from home for my students to examine (car keys, kitchen timers, tea, candy, or whatever may stump them). Then I tell them I found it in my classroom and we need to find the owner to return it. Pull out each item one at a time to have them draw conclusions about what the item is, how it is used and what you can tell about the owner. The class has to use the evidence to find out who it may belong to.
This is a really fun and easy way for students to draw conclusions and use evidence in their writing.
