Description

Artificial Selection and the Technologies Used to Influence Inheritance will cover artificial selection, selective breeding, genetic engineering, GMOs, and gene therapy. This resource addresses NGSS MS-LS4-5. and Utah SEEd 7.4.4. Students will work through Google slides, reading, and answering questions. There are interactions on almost every slide. This resource includes drag and drop activities, video responses, digital interactive notebook, and critical thinking questions.

This resource is aligned with the following standards:

NGSS MS-LS4-5. Gather and synthesize information about the technologies that have changed the way humans influence the inheritance of desired traits in organisms. [Clarification Statement: Emphasis is on synthesizing information from reliable sources about the influence of humans on genetic outcomes in artificial selection (such as genetic modification, animal husbandry, gene therapy); and, on the impacts, these technologies have on society as well as the technologies leading to these scientific discoveries.]

Utah SEEd 7th Grade Standard 7.4.4

Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the technologies that have changed the way humans affect the inheritance of desired traits in organisms. Analyze data from tests or simulations to determine the best solution to achieve success in cultivating selected desired traits in organisms. Examples could include artificial selection, genetic modification, animal husbandry, and gene therapy. (LS4.B, ETS1.A, ETS1.B, ETS1.C)

This unit is no prep and ready to use. A suggested schedule, lesson outline, and answer keys are provided.
