Part IA: 60 Points
Choose an artist to research and complete the questions based on your research.
Part 1B: 40 Points
Describe and interpret one or two works of art. One of the artworks should be by your artist.
Part 2: 100 Points
In-Class project where you IMITATE or EMULATE your artist.
I do this at the end of each year with my Studio Art class, but can be used for many other art classes and different grade levels. The students hate the word research but end up LOVING this project. It serves as a summative project as well to help assess how far they've come.
Basically, they research an artist, usually I will help guide them in their search by finding out their interests, and then create an artwork in class based on that artist. They can either copy an artwork or create one inspired by their artist. The results are different every time and the critiques are always intriguing! This is SUCH a great project, just make sure you leave enough time for the students and yourself, since it might get a bit hectic with all the different projects going on.
