This packet includes an integrated measurement, graphing, and writing activity. After listening to one of the recommended stories, the students are introduced to height and width terminology using the height and width explanation page. The students read the artists’ talking bubbles on the artists’ studio worksheet and use rulers or Unifix cubes to measure the height and width, in inches or centimeters, of each artist’s desired canvas. The measured canvases are cut and glued to the artists’ easels and the students draw and color a picture on the canvas that corresponds with the title of each artist’s painting. Technology links for “how to draw” the artists’ subject matter are provided. A gallery page containing three works of art is shown to the students and they create a bar graph of their favorite picture hanging in the gallery. The results of the graphed data are discussed orally or by using a set of guiding questions. The students then respond to an opinion prompt.
