The students will be creating a booklet to examine the problems addressed by the progenitor of the Asakura clan and founder of the domain. In this Common Core approach to Japanese history, the students will closely read a primary source from Japanese history, learn to think like a historian, and write concisely. They will be able to examine from the point of view of a feudal lord during Japanese Warring States what was necessary for the clan’s survival. It will describe the problems he saw, how did he hoped to correct them, and students will determine what were the long-term consequences of the house code he wrote for his descendants. Examples included.
