Another handy tool in the What's That? series from CK Teaching Aids explores the trade and contributions of Mongols, Ottoman, and Mughol civilizations. The first activity is a comparison chart to be filled in by the students. The chart compares these Asian Civilizations existing in the Middle Ages.
The chart can be completed in one of two ways:
-The teacher can use the completed chart contained in the lesson by making a transparency or projecting it from the computer and discussing the chart in class. Have the students complete the chart during the discussion.
-Or give the students a blank chart & tell them to complete it using their textbook. Give them time to gather the information & then go over their charts with them using the completed chart provided.
A second student activity requires the students to use the completed chart to answer the questions. The questions are based on information found on the chart. Most of the questions require an analysis of the information.
There is no right or wrong answer to some of the questions. Student must support their answers using facts from the chart.
The questions must be answered using complete sentences. The activity lends itself to a grading rubric developed by the teacher
An alternate writing assignment is included. Question 3 from the activity sheet would be particularly good for this assignment.
