This project is a favorite for my World History students, even the ones that are not artistically gifted as there are numerous ideas for them. The project is for the students to make a creative project that relates to our unit on Asian History from 500-1650 (but you can alter it if you want to look at a specific country or region). Students can write a song, short story, write their own set of haikus, recreate pottery from the era, or they can jump into the art world and make a comic book (online or drawn), a mosaic, a diorama, or create an elaborate model of the imperial residence. Now with web 2.0 tools so readily available, there are so many options for the students.
To prove that the students though know their history, they have to write an artist's statement that discusses their work of art and also discusses the historical merit to it.
Examples are given to help the students.
