I am excited to offer this compilation of 144 questions for journaling or conversation starters! While I think this is a fun resource for any classroom, I have found it most valuable in tutoring my ELL students in Conversational English. After hours of chatting, it can be hard to come up with new topics to discuss! What makes these question strips unique is that they are divided up to focus specifically on past, present, or future verb tenses. This is very often an area that needs targeted practice. With these question strips, I can keep the conversation flowing while choosing an area of focus. The questions are also a great way to assess proficiency in these areas if students are providing written responses.
Each set of questions can be left as a whole sheet for your use, or cut into strips for student use. There is a handy printable label at the end of each section to keep your strips organized. These are great for early finishers, ice breakers at the beginning of the year, bell ringer journaling, or differentiated literacy center activities.
