A Customizable Resource for teaching R.L. 1.1- I can ask and answer questions about key details in a text.
The mini unit/journal can be used with any fiction texts you choose to read aloud to students, or have students read themselves. You can totally customize this journal by choosing the pages to fit your choice of text or the focus of your lesson. Just copy the student cover page with the pages that fulfill your lesson focus behind it. Make several different combinations of the journal as your student progress in their understanding of the standard, or to best match the focus of your lessons.
The key detail elements include characters, setting, problem, solution, and important events in the story.
The questioning vocabulary includes who, where, when, why, what, and how.
A section of the journal allows for the students to formulate their own questions about the text and have a friend/partner answer, using an interactive journal format.
The final page allows you to make your own question about key details to fit the needs of your students.
