Ask students to use critical thinking about their own thinking when YOU use these probing question prompts. They are based on the comprehension keys like analyzing, synthesizing, determining importance, summarizing, asking questions, etc and will help you reinforce this vocabulary.
When students answer a question, you will categorize their answers into which comprehension key they used. Below each category you will find choices for prompts that restate what comprehension strategy the student used to answer the question and then prompts for your next question that also suggest what comprehension strategy you are asking them to use. SEE THE PREVIEW ABOVE.
These prompts are easy to have in front of you during class discussions. As you familiarize yourself with them, they will become second-nature. Asking probing questions will be easy for you!
