This is an activity that students can use during workstations or small group work to answer questions on identifying the sounds of words. This was made as a practice for the Indiana IREAD assessment, but can be easily used in other areas. There is an answer sheet for student responses and an answer key is also included. There are a total of 240 questions cards, split into 4 sets.
Game Boards and Game Cards (Sets A-D)
One Pawn or Counter for Each Player
Up to eight players can play the game. Choose a set of cards to start. Pick a card and choose the correct answer. If you answer correctly, move one space on the game board. If you answer incorrectly, go back one space. Continue until you reach the bowling pins. Write your answers on the answer sheet. Check your answers using the answer key.
Which word has the same beginning sound as stop?
Students need to land on the bowling pins and answer the next card correctly, or they have to go back to the beginning and start over again.
