Students will decompose a number 11-19 into tens and ones, then demonstrate it as an equation.
This is a quick formative assessment I used with Kindergarteners in Term 3. I used this to determine who was able to show a decomposed number AND write it as an equation. It provided great data for one-on-one follow up questions. This is a Tier 1 assessment, then I follow up with Tier 2, hands-on instruction as needed. This could easily be used in small groups with manipulatives.
