This is an excellent tool for developing a plan for instructional differentiation! Diagnose the strength of your new students' vocabulary skills right away, and find out what level of textbook or other readings they can handle. It will help you distinguish between the students who may need something more basic and those who may need something more challenging. The test is painstakingly designed to gradually increase in difficulty throughout the high-school levels, finally reaching the 12th-grade level where students are required to discern between fine shades of meaning.
This assessment is also much more than a diagnostic. It's a valuable collection of social studies-oriented vocabulary--complete with clearly worded, accurate definitions--that high school students need to know, not only to be able to comprehend textbooks and other course readings but also for the S.A.T.'s and other standardized achievement tests.
This download consists of a 14-page package that includes the 100-question diagnostic assessment, assessment key, and teacher's scoring guide.
