This is an engaging, visual assignment to evaluate your students' understanding of themes. This fully-editable assignment explains how students are to watch three award-winning short films on Youtube and analyze them for themes. To get full marks, your students are required to find evidence for the themes they identify.
All the short films listed are award-winners and available for free on YouTube.
The films are highly engaging for teenagers as they touch on topics of identity, bullying, peer pressure, isolation, character, friendship, anxiety, war, and so on.
Included in this package is a theme cheat sheet for students which reviews, in detail, how themes differ from topics, and how to uncover themes in literature and film (five strategies for finding theme discussed).
This is a favourite assignment of my students every year and sparks great classroom discussion!
