I have found that allowing to students to revise their work (especially longer writing assignments) can often lead to productive teachable moments. Sometimes it's a conversation about a writing convention or clarifying assignment expectations. You may also find the conversation leaning towards helping students realize they need to restructure their priorities or address some bad habits. Nevertheless, if you are a generous teacher, then conversations like this can only lead to greater understanding between you and your students.
This is an Assignment Revision Contract between a teacher and a student. It can be modified to fit your needs. I keep the top in my student folders in case I need to reference it and to show parents if necessary. Students get the tiny reminder slip at the bottom.
