Description
Is grading in-class assignments and homework taking up a TON of your time? Students tend to have consistent patterns of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and neatness, so why not score work in bigger batches? This holistic rubric saves you time and allows you to give students and parents a "big picture" evaluation of work habits.
* Fully editable
* Available in Windows, Mac, and Google Slides formats

Here's a suggested system for using the rubric:
(1) On the day the work is due, follow your usual procedure to check for accuracy, whether it be to have students mark their own errors, to have an aide or assistant mark errors, to glance over it yourself during a bell-ringer, etc. This will allow you to formatively assess student understanding of the concepts you're teaching.
(2) Instead of collecting and recording a score for every single assignment, have students store their homework in folders, then collect work in batches on a weekly basis, every two weeks, or whatever works for you.
(3) Evaluate the whole batch at once for each student, using this rubric to score student work as a whole.
(4) Return the batch to students with one holistic score, either attaching this rubric or having students refer to a copy of the rubric you gave them to keep.
Remember, this system does not prevent you from LOOKING AT work or ASSESSING where students are -- that can be done informally, during class or whenever you have a concern about a student or a particular skill. What this lets you do is quickly and efficiently CREDIT students for their work and RECORD that credit.
