Product Description
This is an interactive notebook page that students cut and paste into their notebook. There is a T-chart with 6 pictures to teach students about the two different types of technology used to help people with disabilities. This lesson helps my students by teaching them a part of bioengineering through assistive and adaptive technology while teaching them to be compassionate and empathetic to those who may have a disability or be different than them.

Assistive- Devices ONLY used by people with disabilities.
- prosthetic leg
- glasses
- hearing aid

Adaptive- Ordinary devices that have been adapted or changed to help people with a disability.
-flashing doorbell
-spoon strap
-voice activated computer

Additionally, I have students continue coming up with extra examples to add to their T-Chart. This can be done, individually, in partners or groups, or as a whole class discussion.

Lastly, as an extension, there are a series of videos on youtube about assistive technology. I have included the link to the one I show below. (4 minutes) I have my students watch the video and write a paragraph about the assistive and adaptive technology used by the little boy in the video. He is blind and uses a braille machine, iPad, and smart board.
