Have students engage with a variety of classic short stories, including "The Dinner Party," by Mona Gardner
, "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell
, "The Monkey's Paw," by W.W. Jacobs
, and “The Ransom of Red Chief” by O. Henry. Handouts are CCSS aligned and challenge students to engage with each text by using higher order thinking!
For each short story, students will work through three levels of questions:
**Literal Questions - Answers can be pulled directly from the text. There is a "right" answer.
**Inferential Questions - Answers need to be interpreted from information found in the text.
**Evaluative Questions - Answers need to be developed by evaluating aspects of the text.
