What a fun way to kick off a study of Space or Astronauts or ... Sky Science!
Students will read a bit about the history of mission patches and can complete a crossword puzzle to review their understanding.
Moving on to examining 4 mission patches and what each of the images represent, understanding that every part of the mission patch represents 'something" unique to the mission and crew.
Students can then join together with others to form a crew and work together to decide on the elements and design of their own crew mission patch incorporating:
• crew members
• mission number
• mission purpose
• shape of patch
• images and what each represents
• and adding the "personal touch"
Then students work together to design and create their mission crew patch.
(As an extension, we scanned and printed their designs onto fabric transfer paper and students made their own t-shirts)
