In this activity, students will graph the maximum altitude of the sun and the moon in the sky throughout the year in order to study the seasonal changes in both the sun and the moon's path throughout the sky. Students will also keep track of the moon phases to see if there is a correlation between the moon's altitude, the sun's altitude, and the phase of the moon. Finally, students will explain how the Earth's tilt plays a role in these seasonal changes.
This activity was designed for a high school astronomy class. An answer key is included.
