Student Internet investigation that further explores Planet Mercury and Venus. The lab utilizes websites from various sources to investigate processes that affect both inner planets; physical data, and the spacecraft that have visited. The latest images, interactive animations, games and data are presented as well for this topic. (I use this computer lab activity for my astronomy class as part of the Unit IV "The Inner Planets" review but it can also be used at an 8th grade level Earth/Space activity.)
Mercury - cratering, Mariner 10, MESSENGER, smallest major planet, large core, mantle, history, perihelion, aphelion, rotation, year, escape velocity, extreme temperature differences, transit/sun, magnetic field
Venus - volcanoes, hottest planet, surface features, Magellan, Venera, radar mapping, Venusian day/year, orbital tilt, thick atmosphere, CO2, oceans, terraforming, geological features, Earth comparisons
