This unit has been used in my Modern Physics class. This course is offered to Juniors and Seniors at my school, and Physics 1 is a pre-requisite. There will be no math used past Algebra 1 or 2. We teach on a block schedule, so the unit may need to be modified for pacing in a classroom that is not on block.
This is an 8 day unit, with content for 6 instructional days before the test, 1 review packet (with key) and 2 test versions (with keys). Also included with this unit are plans for class research/discussion on nuclear power and energy. Topics include brightness and distance, luminosity of stars, H-R Diagrams and star organization, modeling the stars, as well as the life cycle of stars. Included in the powerpoint presentations are links engaging videos that have visuals that will help students see the physics.
Everything is here and ready for you to begin your study of astrophysics with your students. Your download will include 4 powerpoint presentations and note taking guides, a laboratory activity, a star organization activity over H-R diagrams, 3 practice pages with solutions, as well as a test review and solutions. I am also including an extra credit presentation assignment with scoring rubric over a variety of topics, as well as the unit plan and learning targets.
