This activity is designed to help school staff to identify students who are at-risk of academic difficulties due to a real or perceived lack of personal connections at school. Students who lack personal connections at school, or who perceive a lack of personal connections, often exhibit behaviors such as apathy and withdrawal, anxiety, truancy, behavioral difficulties, and eventual academic difficulties. School staff can help to identify these at-risk students and intervene in a manner that increases their involvement and success in school.
This document includes instructions on how to lead the activity, compile resulting data, and develop interventions for at-risk students. The document also includes a copy of the survey handout that is administered to students.
