For this activity, students are asked to demonstrate basic knowledge while snipping and sorting. When finished, each student will have a completed booklet that assesses skills such as name writing; letter, numeral, shape, and color naming; object and animal identification; basic sorting skills; scissor and glue skills. A full list of all skills covered is included.
I have also included a “Look At What I Know!” page. I use this in my classroom as a report card for my students. I send it home a few times a year to show progress and ask parents to work with any missing skills at home with their child(ren). A fully editable version can be found in my store as a freebie. This activity covers several, but not all, skills found on this sheet.
I have also included a basic data sheet. I suggest printing it off, writing student names across the top and then making several copies. Before beginning the activity, write down any skills you will be assessing down the left side.
Finally, this activity is part of a larger unit titled “Welcome Back.” This unit covers all preschool and beginning kindergarten skills using fun and engaging activities suitable for the beginning of the school year. If you enjoy this activity and would like more, please look for this unit!
