This activity, with its Apples/Orchards theme, was designed to help you quickly collect baseline data or perform progress monitoring on your students who have goals related to oral expression and grammar (primarily: “has”/“have,” copulas, pronouns, possessive nouns, and possessive pronouns). Although it was created to informally assess grammar, it could also be used to evaluate word retrieval, articulation, and comprehension of concepts. In addition, these materials could be used for instructional purposes.
Five “busy pix,” each with an accompanying, short and simple “story,” are included.
1. Read the stories out loud. Then, use the questions provided to elicit sentences containing targeted forms. Require students to paraphrase their responses.
2. Read the story out loud. Have your students retell the stories that you have read to them.
3. Have your students describe the pictures in their own words (no story provided).
