Product Description
This activity is a perfect assessment for the common core reading standards. It includes an excerpt from the primary sources Pericles Funeral Oration and the Melian Debate to investigate the true nature of Athens during its Golden Age. The first source glorifies the city, the second shows their imperialistic nature. Both sources include close reading questions analyzing the source and evaluating the bias involved. Then there is a summary question about Athens asking students to take a position and use text evidence from both sources to defend it. Sources and questions may be shortened for differentiation. I also have a rubric in my store that you can use to measure the student's success. This has been used to set and measure SLOs based on certain questions you choose from this source analysis.
