These riddles help students practice their skills related to lines of latitude and longitude. Students can utilize maps of the United States to locate state capitals. Students are practicing these skills: lines of latitude and longitude, directions, and knowledge of state capitals. The riddles also give information about the capital's state. Example:
I am a state capital fairly close to the Atlantic. My line of latitude is about 36°N and my line of longitude is between 75°W and 80°W. My state has a group of barrier islands called the Outer Banks. I am east of Nashville. The Wright Brothers flew their first airplane in my state. What is my name? Answer: Raleigh, North Carolina
