This is a one page instructional sheet/rubric for an atom model project. The students will contruct a 3D model of an atom which includes all 3 subatomic particles. They must also include a key which hangs from the model. There is an example for the students on this assignment sheet.
This is a great, fun project that provides hands-on learning. They learn how to use the periodic table to find the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons needed in a atom. I usually have the students choose (or I'll assign) elements helium through neon.
I give the students 2 or 3 work days in class to complete the assignment. You'll need to have some craft supplies handy, or ask that the students bring in some recyclable materials to use.
