This is now 1,300+ slide PowerPoint presentation about Types of Chemical Reactions, Atomic Bonding, Subscripts and Coefficients, Balancing Chemical Equations, Endo and Exothermic Reactions, and some additional info about redox reactions, that includes critical notes (red slides), challenge questions, activities, lab activities, video links, review opportunities, built-in quizzes, class worksheets that follow slideshow, answer key, and much more.
Also included is a 190 slide Review Game that concludes the entire lesson bundle for a great review. Answers and template sheet provided.
Note: This is a nice 8th, 9th, 10th grade lesson and intended for middle of the road chemistry students or strong 8th grade students.
This PowerPoint begins describing what a chemical bond is, jumps straight into Ionic, Covalent, and Metallic bonds after a little fun with the character James Bond. Each one of the bonds is then covered in greater detail and some animation slides are used. An activity is provided to show heat being released from breaking metallic bonds with cheap cafeteria spoons. (Paper clips will also work) Caution! The Spoons can really heat up. After a quick review, a quiz 1-10 that shows pictures of various bonds is built into the slideshow. The word bank: Ionic, Covalent, Metallic. The answers are provided after the quiz. The question is previewed before the answer is revealed so the teacher can upon students. Ion's are then discussed and a series of slides question the students to which picture represents an anion, and which is the cation. Electron affinity is then described and another series of questions with answers are provided to the class. Balancing chemical equations is then presented, Law Conservation of Mass is reviewed, a series of images with arrows and text help to reinforce this Law. Reactants and Products are mentioned. Coefficients are also discussed and then the PowerPoint begins the step by step process of balancing a few equations. Only one step at time is shown for each slide. Chemicals are urged to have boxes put around them and a chemical inventory list is constantly being referenced to. The PowerPoint takes the students through a few examples before they are asked to attempt a few on their own. An activity sheet with more equations and answers is provided in the Entire Unit that is described below but absent from this PowerPoint. A video link has students watch a video to balance equations another way without the use of inventory boxes. A link to online quiz and other websites are included. A series of hidden box games conclude this PowerPoint that have relevant pictures covered up. Each slide reveals more of the picture beneath and students take guesses as to the picture beneath. This is a neat PowerPoint that gets the students participating in some difficult science. I like having the students do the inventory box method of balancing equations over other methods. This piggy backs off of my Law Conservation of Mass lesson that occurred a few days prior. Please see my entire Atoms and Periodic Table of the Elements Unit described below before purchasing this PowerPoint.

This PowerPoint includes critical notes (Red Slides), exciting visuals, challenge questions, activities with directions and more. Text is usually placed at the top of the slide so it can be read from all angles of a classroom. Color coded slides, as well as a shade technique is used to increase student focus and allows the teacher to control the pace of the lesson. These PowerPoints are meant to be interactive as possible and ask many questions, provides built in review opportunities, explains directions to activities, and much more. Transition effects are never used.
Please visit my other posting on TpT called The Atoms and Periodic Table Unit which includes this PowerPoint within the 2000+ slide PowerPoint roadmap, 13 page bundled homework / assessment, 8 page modified homework, detailed answer keys, and 14 pages of unit notes for students who may require assistance that chronologically follow the PowerPoint slideshow. The answer keys and unit notes are great for support professionals. This larger file also includes PowerPoint review games (2 games 110+ slides each), 30 .flv videos, lab handouts, activity sheets, rubrics, materials list, templates, guides, and much more.
