This is a great game to review atomic structure and how to use the periodic table to find the subatomic particles.
How it works:
• The game includes 18 Bohr Models of atoms of different elements. I laminate the models so that I can reuse them from year to year.
• I place the 18 laminated atomic models around the room creating 18 stations. Students work in groups of 2 and rotate through the 18 stations working as a team.
• Students collect the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons for each atomic model and record the information on their “Who Am I?” student sheet. Students then must fill in the periodic square for that element. They include the atomic #, the element symbol, element name, and atomic mass using the information they gathered at the station.
The game takes about 40 minutes for students to complete. I will offer students +1 bonus point on a quiz for every 2 correct stations (for a possible total of +9 bonus points) to motivate them to work as a team and take the task at hand seriously.
There are variations that you could use to this game. I have a set of atomic model cards that I added charges to (I just wrote them on the card), to create ions. If I have a class that needs a challenge I will use put some ions in the mix.
You could also have students work individually if you have the extra space in your classroom.
