Looking for an engaging way to review the structure of the atom? These races are a great way for students to think through the location, charge, mass, etc. of each subatomic particle. Then in the second round, students are asked to determine the number of particles/mass in various scenarios. This fast-paced, high-energy activity is a fun way to formatively assess students and immediately correct misconceptions. This activity promotes academic conversations and collaboration in student groups. It is also an effective way to review the content of TEKS 8.5A and build student confidence in order to be successful on Grade 8 Science STAAR.
