Are you struggling with finding a creative way to teach history in science? This timeline activity will show your students how the understanding of the atom has changed over time. It will highlight the discoveries of Democritus, Thomson, Bohr, Rutherford, Dalton, Schrodinger, and Heisenberg. I usually use this as an introduction to my matter unit; however it can be used at other spots in your lesson plans as well. This activity usually takes my students 2-3 class periods using textbooks that cover all of the material in the timeline. It may take more or less time for your students if you are using computers or library books for looking up information.
