This product is what I call a "disposable crutch" for AP U.S. History students. Many of my students had never taken an AP class before and all of them walked in with varying levels of writing ability. When I introduced the DBQ and LEQ I always used this to help provide them a step-by-step attack plan. Some students continued to use it all year long while others used it for a while and then disposed it for their own style (hence "disposable crutch").
So the best way to use this product is at the beginning of the year when introducing the first DBQ or LEQ of the year. This product helps students set up the thesis paragraph for the DBQ and LEQ (which, we know, is perhaps the most important paragraph of the essay). Hope it helps!
