At our school, we are required to take attendance 5+ times a day within the first ten minutes of each period. I was struggling to remember to do this each day, so to make it a fun part of my routine, I introduced "Attendance Questions." I pose a question that can be answered quickly to the class, and then go down the roster asking each student their answer. The questions are normally not very serious and a lot about food & favorites. I've done this now for a few years and other teachers have started using this method too! What we've noticed is that students LOVE getting to share their answers and it helps create a community in a classroom that we only share for an hour. It lets me get to know the kids and holds me accountable. The cards included have 180 different questions. I have printed, cut, and laminated these into cards and I draw one in no particular order each day. It keeps me from wasting time to come up with a question each morning. I hope your classes enjoy these as much as mine do!
