An effective attention signal is one of the most practical, necessary classroom management strategies for educators of all ages. In this short video, I discuss the best practices that make an effective attention signal and how to implement them into your classroom.
Please note, this is a "trial" video, so to speak. I'd be happy to create more videos according to your feedback.
One thing I did not mention in the video (and should have) is the importance of having students practice the signal on the very first day of class. Model and explain it to the students, and then offer several opportunities for practice with feedback. Only accept the way you've taught the signal. Remember, your expectations are what you allow, not what you say. Take this time to demonstrate exactly what is allowed in your classroom.
