Students read a brief passage on Attila the Hun and a short account of his interactions with Roman envoys during a dinner. They answer 8 questions and complete 2 creative tasks (one has students look at Attila both as a hero and as a villain, the other has students create a resume for him). This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.
Sample questions include:
--Inferring from Marcellinus' quote, how did the Romans perceive the Huns? Do you think the Huns saw themselves the same way, why or why not?
--Explain what extortion is and how Attila would have used it to benefit the Huns.
--Why would Priscus and the other Romans make a point of abiding by Attlia's customs?
--The account ends fairly abruptly. Write a closing paragraph with details on what you think happened the next day.
