Let’s practice our comparing/contrasting skills by sorting penguins, snowmen and winter clothing. Targets working memory, understanding of descriptive concepts (incl. colors, size, quantity, "not," prepositions), expression of descriptive concepts, and vocabulary development.
Each comparing set has eight (8) cards with similar objects. The therapist/teacher lays them out and then reads from a clue card. As clues are read, kiddos remove the cards that don’t work until they are left with just one. Let them check their answer with the QR code at the bottom of the clue card!
There is an additional set of snowmen cards for your Cariboo game. Insert the cards into the top of the boxes and either give clues (to target receptive goals) or have the student describe the snowman (expressive goals). If you don’t have Cariboo, don’t worry! There is a sorting sheet for you to use instead!
Laminate the sorting chart and place two of the Cariboo cards at the top of the sheet. Next ask each of the questions, using a dry erase market to mark a green dot for “yes” and a red dot for “no.” Your completed chart will give you lots of opportunities to visualize the individual commonalities/differences of the two objects.
Includes: 3 sets (penguins, snowmen, winter clothing) of 8 object cards; 16 clue cards for each set; 15 snowmen Cariboo cards; sorting/charting sheet
