Attributes of Two-Dimensional Shapes Project-Based Learning

This project-based learning activity is a great way for students to demonstrate their understanding of the various attributes of polygons. Students complete shape attribute charts on two shapes of their choice (choosing from the 15 shape cards provided). Students then use their charts to complete a Venn Diagram in which they compare and contrast the attributes of their two shapes. Finally, students are provided with a structured writing task in which they write an informative two-paragraph essay explaining the similarities and differences of the two shapes.
This project includes:
• an overview page for students explaining the project
• 15 shape cards (color and black & white)
• two shape attributes charts for students to complete
• a Venn Diagram
• six geometry reference charts
1. What Makes a Shape a Polygon?

• lined writing paper
• student self-evaluation rubric
