Anyone who knows about Louisiana Mardi Gras already knows about the parades, the king cakes, the royal courts and the Mardi Gras balls. But, there's another Mardi Gras out in the country that isn't nearly as well-known.
This is a short story in French that teaches about the rural Louisiana Mardi Gras, or Courir de Mardi Gras. In this story, Félix, a Canadian who has distant family in Louisiana visits his cousin for what he thinks will be a traditional city Mardi Gras. He soon learns how different the traditions can be way out in the country.
This is an advanced level story that includes many tenses and moods as well as advanced vocabulary and grammar. It contains Cajun dialect, including some words with accompanying links to native Cajun speaker audio files. There are accompanying activities and questions for both before and after the story.
