Au and Aw Dipthongs Phonics Mini Games!
This phonics games pack contains 7 student-centered games that are perfect for literacy center time. Keep your students engaged in their learning as they practice identifying, decoding, and spelling Au and Aw words. This mini games pack is ‘paw’ themed to go with the au/aw phonics skill. This pack is best suited for first grade, however, kindergarten teachers might find it useful to challenge advanced students. In addition, second grade teachers might want to use the games for review or intervention time.
Memory Match: [1-2 Players] Students practice identifying and matching Au and Aw words. One of the cards for each matching pair has a picture cue to help developing readers. An independent practice sheet is included with this game.
Tic Tac Toe: [2 Players] Students practice reading Au and Aw words. Students must read the word in order to put a marker on the square. There are 5 game boards to choose from, so students can play more than once and still read different words. X and O marker cards are included.
Go Fish Game: [2 Players] Students practice identifying and matching Au and Aw words. Students will know they have a match by looking at the matching paw-themed picture cues. Students can write their matches on the included student recording sheet.
Word Reading Board Game: [2-4 Players] Students decode Au and Aw words, and match them to a corresponding picture. Game pawns and a number cube are included, or you can use your own manipulatives/die cube.
Sound Subber: [1-2 Players] Students practice phonemic awareness and Au/Aw word reading. This game is played like memory match, and will challenge your advanced students. An independent practice sheet is included with this game.
Slides and Ladders Game: [2 Players] Students practice reading Au and Aw words. This game is played like the traditional slides and ladders game. Students must read the words as they move their player. Game pawns and a number cube are included, or you can use your own manipulatives/die cube.
Spin and Spell: [2-4 Players] Students practice spelling Au and Aw words. Letter tiles are included. You could also laminate the word cards, and have students write in letters using a dry erase marker. A game spinner is also included.
