PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is an introductory lesson I use to demonstrate the different levels of formality we use in writing. I use a number line that goes from 0-10 to quantify the shift with zero being most informal and ten being most formal. I use this worksheet for a jigsaw where each group gets a prompt and has to write on it and present it to the class. This opens up discussion on what kinds of changes are made. (For example, "I want 2 go 2 the mall" to a friend versus "Mom, can I go to the mall? to a parent.)
