This is a Listening Activity that goes to a Video of Selena Quintanilla (Included) on Sábado Gigante being interviewed by Don Francisco. It is 5:27 long. The students will try to "Guess" new vocabulary words and answer comprehensive questions from the video about Selena's hit album "Amor Prohibido" using their Spanish language skills. 2 accents will be observed: El acento de Chile y el acento de Méxicano-Americano.
Since the video is only 5:27 long, it's the perfect size that allows time to be re-watched by students to seek out the answers. This is the perfect activity to engage listening to native Spanish speakers. Recommended for Spanish 2 or higher levels of Spanish.
Save yourself time of finding good videos or podcasts of native Spanish speakers and use this video that has already been ran through safescan and is ready to be scanned for watching and listening. All keys are included for quick grading.
ACTFL National Standards Used:
Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics.
Standard 3.2: Students acquire information and recognize the distinctive viewpoints that are only available through the foreign language and its cultures.
Students watch and listen to an interview with Selena Quintanilla. A 5 minute Video. Students guess the meaning of the vocabulary words from the video. Then go over the real meanings of the vocabulary words. After watching the video, the students answer comprehension questions from the video. Have students trade papers with another student in the class, watch the video together as a class and go over the answers.
Scan QR Code and listen to the video. Instructions on how to do this is included or you can watch from youtube but QR code is safer and easier for your students.
