Product Description
As a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), my high school students often lack knowledge about hearing loss because it is not a topic of discussion in their regular education classes and/or in their grade level curriculum; therefore, I often create IEP Goals and/or Objectives that helping students understand their hearing loss through the reading of random Audiograms. This prepares them with the skills to use Hearing Loss Terminology correctly, allows them to read any audiogram and identify the type, kind and degree of Hearing Loss from the listed results, as well as strengthens their self-advocacy skills in relation to their own hearing impairments. It prepares each of them for their futures; aiding in their understanding of future audiograms should their hearing loss change from time to time. They will then be able to correctly read and understand the change in their hearing, independently.

In order to further assist my high schoolers in developing these essential skills, I have created 20 example audiograms on speech bananas, along with a Reading the Audiogram Worksheet that the student will complete with each corresponding audiogram. I have also created an Answer Key for the Reading an Audiogram Worksheets. The student will identify the following information about each audiogram:

The location of where the audiogram was completed
The date the audiogram was completed
The number of the audiogram
The Type of Hearing Loss (i.e., Unilateral or Bilateral)
The Kind of Hearing Loss (i.e., Conductive, Sensorineural or Mixed)
The Degree of Hearing Loss (i.e., Within Normal Limits (WNL), Slight, Mild, Moderate, Severe and Profound)
The Range in Decibel (dB) in both, the right and left ears

My students always loved learning how to properly read an Audiogram. It helped them to better understand their own hearing impairments. Giving them this skill truly broadens their awareness of their disability! Hope that you find this tool as resourceful as I have, as well as my current and past DHH students!
